The World’s Best City for Children
JI don’t hide the fact that I’m a teacher – I’ve been one for 15 years. Throughout that time, I have worked for the best interests of children, and I will continue to do so. For me, it’s simple: Copenhagen must be the best city in the world to grow up in.
That requires concrete initiatives that I know work. Not only for schoolchildren, but also for the youngest in nurseries and kindergartens. Children should be met with safe environments, skilled adults, and the opportunity for both play and learning.
I want schools of the highest quality and after-school programs that bring energy and community. That means more adults in the classrooms, modern facilities, and room for children to develop their talents. My ambitions are high: every single child should feel that school is a place where they can grow and thrive.
But it’s also about everything around the school: safe routes so parents can confidently send their children off in the morning, and a city where kids can play without fear of dangerous traffic.
The best gift we can give children in Copenhagen is safety, quality, and a strong community. That’s why I’m fighting for greater investment in our childcare institutions and schools – because children deserve the very best.
Safe, Green, And Efficient Transport for Everyone
Better Facilities for Sports And Leisure
As chairman of Ørestad IF, I have seen up close how children, young people, and adults thrive with an active leisure life. Football, handball, swimming, badminton, and all the other sports offer more than exercise – they create community, friendships, and confidence. Local sports clubs are the glue that holds neighborhoods together, and they deserve the best conditions.
Too often, the facilities are under pressure: too few pitches, gym slots that don’t meet demand, or worn-down venues that make it difficult to accommodate the many children who want to take part. That needs to change. Copenhagen needs more sports facilities and modern venues, so even more people can enjoy the benefits of active community life.
But strong clubs are not just about bricks and artificial turf. The foundation is the volunteers who show up every day to give children and young people a better everyday life. Without them, most activities would not be possible. That’s why we must both recognize and support voluntary work – and at the same time ensure that clubs have the resources needed to motivate volunteers and attract new members.
Investing in community sports is an investment in children’s well-being, adults’ health, and the sense of belonging that makes Copenhagen a strong and vibrant city.
